What Makes Bilt Unique

Rent is the largest monthly expense for most Americans, averaging $1,800/month in 2025. Until Bilt, there was no way to earn credit card rewards on rent without paying a 2-3% transaction fee that wiped out any reward value. Bilt solved this by partnering directly with property management companies and absorbing the transaction cost.

Rent Rewards Math

Bilt points are worth approximately 1.5-2 cents per point when transferred to Hyatt. At 1x on rent, here is what you earn:

Monthly RentAnnual PointsValue (at 1.5cpp)Value (at 2cpp via Hyatt)Equivalent Free Nights

Bilt Transfer Partners

Bilt points become most valuable when transferred to travel partners. Here are the key options:

World of Hyatt
1:1Hotel

Strong. Hyatt points worth ~2cpp. 18,000 Bilt points = a free night at many Hyatt properties.

American Airlines (AAdvantage)
1:1Airline

Good. Domestic flights start at 12,500 miles round trip.

United MileagePlus
1:1Airline

Good. Saver awards at 10,000 miles for short domestic flights.

Air Canada (Aeroplan)
1:1Airline

Excellent. Stopover rules allow 2 trips in 1 booking.

Turkish Airlines (Miles&Smiles)
1:1Airline

Excellent for business class to Europe and Asia.

IHG One Rewards
1:2Hotel

Moderate. 2x ratio means 18,000 Bilt = 36,000 IHG points.

Rent Day Promotions

On the 1st of every month ("Rent Day"), Bilt offers bonus earning opportunities for cardholders. These have included double points on dining, bonus points for completing fitness challenges through the Bilt app, exclusive SoulCycle and Barry's classes, and limited-time transfer bonuses to airline/hotel partners.

Rent Day promotions are not guaranteed and change monthly, but they represent genuine additional value for active cardholders. Past highlights include 2x dining all day, bonus Hyatt transfer ratios, and Bilt-exclusive experiences.

The 5-Transaction Requirement

Bilt requires you to make at least 5 transactions per billing cycle to earn any points that month. This includes your rent payment, so you really only need 4 additional purchases. Small purchases count. A $2 coffee counts the same as a $200 grocery run.

If you forget and only make 3 transactions plus rent in a billing cycle, you earn zero points for the entire month, including on rent. Set a reminder in the first week of each month to make a few small purchases with the card.

Who Should Get the Bilt Blue

Best for:

  • - Renters paying $1,000+/month who want to earn something on rent
  • - People who understand and value transfer partners (Hyatt, AA, United)
  • - Diners who want 3x points on restaurants
  • - International travelers (no foreign transaction fee)
  • - Anyone who makes at least 5 purchases per month easily

Skip it if:

  • - You own your home (no rent to earn on)
  • - Your landlord does not accept credit card payments through Bilt
  • - You prefer cash back over transferable points
  • - You would struggle to make 5 transactions per month
  • - You do not want to learn about transfer partners

Bilt Card Tiers

For most renters, the Bilt Blue at $0/year is the right starting point. Upgrading to Gold ($95/year) makes sense if you pay $2,000+/month in rent and dine out frequently. See our fee analysis for the break-even math.
